BeforeÊ publishing your personal home page, please read the Personal Home Page Usage Policy
- All your personal home page information have to be uploaded to the directory called "public_html" under your home directory. This directory had been created for you while your account was activated. If you had deleted this directory before or if you could not find this directory under your home directory, you have to create it first. If you are unsure of how to create this directory, please e-mail tech@cin.net, we will create the directory for you.
- If you create the directory yourself, you have to provide the public_html directory with proper access previledge, which should be readable by others. If you are not familiar with UNIX command, please e-mail to tech@cin.net, we will set the right privilege for you. We would not answer any question about UNIX command here. If you like to learn more about UNIX command, please read the book - there are plenty of those in the library or book store. FOR SYSTEM SECURITY, DO NOT MAKE YOUR WHOLE HOME DIRECTORY WORLD READABLE AND WRITABLE. IN THAT CASE, OTHER PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO READ YOUR MAIL OR PUT SOME JUNK IN YOUR DIRECTORY.
- The default homepage file name is index.html or index.htm If you have your homepage named index.html, your homepage URL would be : http://users.cin.net/~(your_login_name)
If you do not name your home page file to index.html or index.htm, but instead, you named it as homepage.html, then your URL would be:
http://users.cin.net/~(your user login)/homepage.html
- For creating your homepage, there are many HTML editors available on the internet. You can do a search for the keywords "html editors". Whichever editor you download, it will operate just like a word processor. You can cut, or copy text. Some even have the code already in them for you to put in your homepage, at the click of a button. Example ofÊ html editor, go to: http://www.microsoft.com look for front page, or Internet assistance, or in any search engine, type in key word "html editor", you will find many of these utilities.
- For ftp, we recommend you use ws_ftp for DOS machine or "fetch" for MAC. You may download this program at ftp.cin.net under directory /pub/cin/software , the file name is ws_ftp.exe. If you use any ftp client program, your remote directory for your homepage would be ~/(yourusername) under the server users.cin.net.
- If you are using any ftp program, please make sure to set the following:
remote host name : users.cin.net
remote directory : ~(your user name)/public_html
On each personal homepage, we would like you to put a link to the Cin.Net main homepage
